5 Tips to Feel Prepared + Confident for your Engagement Session

Preparing for your engagement session can feel a little daunting, but I promise you the session is ALWAYS worth it and I’ve put together some fun tips to help you feel ready and relaxed about it!

Tip #1

Spend the day together. If possible take the day off and use the time to focus on your connection, enjoy a lunch date together or just have a relaxed and easy day at home. You will have the time to really slow down and enjoy each others company as well as not having to rush or arrive overwhelmed and disconnected.

Tip #2

Dress to feel your best! You’ll want to pick an outfit that represents you and your personal style, these photos should look and feel like you! If you’re looking for some romantic photos with movement then a flowy dress is great or throw on your favorite pair of jeans, the ones that make you feel like a million bucks! You are always welcome to bring an outfit change to have both. Your photos will look timeless if you opt for natural muted colors and avoid bright and distracting patterns or logos. You don’t need to match your partner but make sure your colors compliment one another. Pick shoes that will work for the location (heels aren’t great on the beach) but if you’re down to go barefoot, wear what you want and throw them off when the moment comes. Most importantly, wear what you love and feel the best in, if you feel good you will look good!

Tip #3

Location, Location, Location: Choose a location that is meaningful for you or represents a little bit about who you are as a couple. If you love hiking let’s find some woodsy trails, you’re big into camping we can find some beautiful lakeside sites. If you’re homebodies let's meet at your place you can snuggle up on your couch or dance in your kitchen. If you're unsure what you want, ask me, I’ve done quite a bit of scouting and have lots of ideas!

Tip #4

Enjoy a little pre photo cocktail (if that's your thing).  Enjoying a glass of wine together can be a romantic activity before you arrive. It can help to calm your nerves and ease some inhibitions. Make sure to limit to just one, we want you relaxed, not falling asleep.

Tip #5

Trust me. Everyone thinks that they are going to look awkward in front of the camera, but no one ever is. We will spend the time getting to know each other, you'll fill me in on all the fun details of your relationship and your wedding plans. I hope you will embrace the adventure, the wind, the heat, the laughter, whatever may happen! It’s really all about you and your love, the special connection that you have, and just having a lot of fun!
